CAMDEN, NJ — Even today, Dawn Lewis — a mother and founder of “Shoes for Your Soul” — recalls one of her non-profit’s early visits with Camden students.

It was Catto School over a year ago, and she remembers one young man in particular who made an impression on her.

“He must have been 13 or 14,” Lewis said. “This was of course back when we could visit schools. Now, before we give out shoes or socks, we always size the children first. I asked him what size he was, and he said he was wearing an 8…it turned out he was actually a size 10. I asked him if his feet hurt, and he said sometimes. ‘How could someone concentrate like that?’ I remember thinking.”
